Lock Start-UP
Locking Natural Hair
If your hair is natural rope twisting or two strand twisting is the quickest and easiest method used to cultivate dreadlocks. The hair is rope twisted off the scalp and the roots are locked using the interlocking method. This is to secure the root just in case the ends of the twist should unravel the root is locked so that the process is not disrupted entirely. After two to three weeks the client should return to retighten the new growth via interlocking and the fuzzy loose hairs are wrapped into the twist to freshen the rope twist. This method of locking is neat it maintained properly making the locking process less frustrating. Each client hair will lock up it its own unique way. The lock that will result will depend on the texture of your hair. Locking does not change the texture of your hair so if your hair is fuzzy in texture then your locked hair will be fuzzier than someone whose hair is thicker and does not fuzz. One must accept his/her own journey. The time your hair takes to lock will also be unique, average time is 6-12 months.
If your hair is too short to be or too light to rope twisted a better transition to dreadlocks is through comb twists. Once the comb twists are created and dried the client should be committed to keeping the hair dry and to cover at nights to keep coils in place. After 2-3 weeks the coils can be interlocked the start the locking process.
Locking Processed Hair
Processed hair cannot be locked. However there are two ways in which one can go from processed hair to locks. The first method is by putting in twist braids. At least 2-3 inches of natural roots is needed for this method. After the braid is in place the interlocking needle is used to create a lock at the root. This will lock only the natural hair. As the hair grows, you will return to have the roots interlocked just as someone with mature locks does i.e. every 4 to 6 weeks depending on the rate of hair growth.
Average cost $4500 and up
The other way to transition from processed hair to dreadlocks Lock Extension.
Lock extension can be termed as “instant” locks. In this method 100% human hair is used to create locks in one day. The hair is twisted in and wrapped to create a lock and not only looks and feel natural but that does not have to be cut off as one own locks grows. This method is expensive as the human hair is expensive and the process takes between 8-12 hours to be completed, depending on the length and volume of locks one desires.
Price is quoted when a consultation session conducted. Consultations are required to assess the volume of hair and the desired length desired. Consultations are free.
